How much does care at your facility cost?

The 2008 private pay rates at Fountain Springs range from $169 to $219/day, based on the level of care provided to the resident. Level of care is determined using a standardized national form called the Minimum Data set (MDS).   The current rate (as of September 2008) for assisted living is $2,758 per month.

Consumers should be very careful when shopping for a nursing facility and when comparing rates or other data. It is important to visit the facility whenever possible, rather than relying solely on data which can be viewed online, since much of this data is self-reported by the nursing facilities. Additionally, it is important for consumers to research what is included in the daily rate at each facility. In some cases, a facility may quote a lower daily rate, but then charge for additional supplies and services. For example, Fountain Springs includes local phone service for their patients in private rooms. Patients in semi-private (Title 19) rooms can get free incoming calls or pay a small daily rate for local outgoing calls. Fountain Springs also includes cable TV, incontinence supplies, oxygen concentrator and portable tanks (there is a monthly fee for liquid oxygen), lotion, facial tissues, etc. in the daily rate, whereas some facilities charge for each item. Always ask questions of the admission staff when discussing rates.

Lastly, most people assume that Medicare pays for most nursing home care, when in fact Medicare covers a very small percentage of nursing home care. Most individuals pay for nursing home care using the Medicaid system. Very few people have long term care insurance. This means that typically the private pay individual is making up for deficits in other areas. Rates in nursing homes typically raise 3-5% per year.

Please see the following articles for useful information on long term care costs:

How long is the waiting list?

The waiting list varies and is not only based on who is at the top of the list, but includes other factors such as whether a resident needs a private or semi-private room, whether the individual is male or female (in the case of shared rooms and/or bathrooms) and level of acuity.

How do I get on the waiting list?

Print off a facility Application for Admission and submit it to the Social Services Director, Pat Fippin.

When is the best time to visit the facility?

We welcome visitors at all times, but the best time to visit is when admissions personnel are here to answer questions, which is Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
